For this project, I re-designed our landmark for the USA, the Statue of Liberty. I applied different lighting techniques, clipping masks, filters, effects, etc. to depict the underlying message that our government and state of country is undergoing a drastic change that may jeopardize our overall freedom. I wanted this piece to emphasize a sense of fragility within our nation, so I placed cracks to symbolize this, along with a second statue of liberty, faded in the back. The cracks represent the economic, social, and political struggles that our country is essentially facing currently. This includes the government shutdowns, recent ICE raids, federal funds being cut off to millions of Americans, etc. I added lens flare and a huge light that shines in the back as one of the effects, along with a sunset background. The sunset along with the shining light is meant to capture a moment of transition of uncertainty. There is a combination of both hope and fear during this time period; our democracy is something that we continuously must fight for.
